Let me explain a little. It’s snippets of upcoming minecraft songs. About 6.

There are more than double of that amount. It’s about 45 minutes of music.

After talking with Notch, I decided that all that music is only one half of the soundtrack. The second half is maybe more similar to the original music, but shorter in song length, and not as slow or always melancholic. These songs will be event triggered.

The music in that mp3 is triggered by yourself.

Biggest complaints:

“Too upbeat” – Sheesh, like I can please everyone.

“Unfitting” – I don’t think so. It’s what every creeper would love to listen to.

“How would that work with this and that event” – As I said, these songs are triggered by yourself, so any unfitting music in certain events would have been your fault.

Some people want to know what I’m doing on Minecraft now, but I seriously can’t tell you anything but making music. How much? I can’t tell. What kind of? Nope.

I had a few discussions with Notch depending how the music should react to the game and we got a very cool conclusion that probably will be implemented in beta or even earlier.

In the course of a week, I tried to find out what to do with an old soundtrack I did for a game. I showed it to Notch and he thought it would be good enough for minecraft even. I tried to play with the music and didn’t succeed to make it fitting to minecraft. So I scratched that thought. Now I have this little album full of music and don’t know what to do. I would simply release it online, like I usually do, but that feels sort of empty. So I searched for a netlabel and still am searching. And I guess finding one will still take most of my time. So, I have a dilemma now.

If I had fellow readers I’d ask “what do you think?” and you would write your opinions on what I should do with this soundtrack. Since I don’t have such an user base, I have absolutely no idea what to do with this one.

Excuse me, I’ll run in circles for about two hours now.

Hm. I always thought about this. I release music for years and never had proper advertising or a group of people that would be glad I’d release stuff for them. A little closed community in which we can try some collaborations or stuff like that. I looked at netlabels on google. Most of them are not what I’d like. Sites that simply accept anything and anyone are often the case. Thats lame. Everyone wants to advertise him or herself and doesn’t have any interest in anybody. Just like Jamendo.

I’m releasing a surprise album very soon!

The last one was a bit complex, I think. Well, not really. I mean Bushes and Marshmallows. A Cobblers Tee Thug is just stupid people having fun.

This one won’t be complex. Basically, what I’m doing now is using the sound effects I made for Ludum Dare 16 and try to make a small or maybe big album out of it. The first 6 minutes I created today were pretty charming, I think. So I decided to roll with it. I have made quite a lot of sound files, so I guess it’s way enough to fill an album.

Unusual approach also. I never had premade stuff I rely on before.

Okay, now, back to work.

I think I will ignore most of the criticism I received for the music I did. But I guess I will think about some ideas people brought up. The biggest problem everyone seems to have are the pauses between songs. They were never intended to be so empty and sound-free as we originally wanted to have some ambient noise like natural forest sounds. We probably eventually will, but now there is nothing but footsteps. I think after next week, the sound will procedurally change from time to time, as I will invest as much time as I can into Minecraft. I will listen to the biggest problems people have, but there are too many individual issues here and there, so I will most certainly not please every single person on earth. I can live with that though.

Okay now, what will the music sound like?

Probably similar.

Probably less slow.

Probably with more rhythm.

Probably a tad less depressing.

Probably looped.

Probably fitting to current themes. Hell?

Probably only with Notch’s approval before I put stuff online.

Probably will take a while. Before I release anything and show anything to anyone, I want the music to sound good. I personally want to feel it is right to release what I do. So I think I will take my time.

I should get back working on this. Like right now.

This collaboration album with smn was made in the last week of december 2009. And it’s most definitely not quality work. Some songs really suck I think. But I also think that some are cool and worth alone the painful listen. Okay, now.

Where the Wild Things Are released recently over here. Wow. What an incredible flick.

What is the film about? A boy and his problems. Don’t you read children’s books? Seriously, this one has just 17 illustrations.  Oh. And I guess that’s one of the amazing things. The feature film is fun to watch. Although there is only this small teeny book. I guess a lot of props go to Spike Jonze. His previous two flicks were very interesting and were directed wonderfully. Hm. But he never wrote the scripts of his previous two films. That was Charlie Kaufman. I guess Dave Eggers, who was partly responsible for the screenplay of Away We Go helped Spike a lot.

I don’t like retelling stories for reviewing pleasures, so I just copy and paste the synopsis of IMDB. It’s nice and short

An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world–a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler.

Obviously the film is a little bit different. Instead of sent to bed without  supper, he runs outside after he gets disappointed by his mother and sister.

The monsters are probably still the same as in the book. But I guess the difference between the book and the film is that in the film, they represent Max’s subconscious, while in the book, it seems to be simply a small different world.

All people have problems with films. This one had less than Avatar though, so let’s defend the points I’ve heard are against the films awesomeness.

• It’s boring and slow. Fucking boring and damn slow, that’s for sure!

Boring? I was almost crying after noticing that the film was already over. If you expect some epic kids fantasy, you are wrong here. Max meets people and he will deal with them like every other child. And these people seem child’s at heart too, except that they are big and could eat him.

This film is entirely child’s logic. So if Max says he wants to build a castle that automatically removes the brain of people that are not allowed in there, the monster don’t ask “How the hell would you do that?”, the actual question is “How will it find out who is not allowed in there?”

All those dialogues were so sweet and fun to listen to that I’ve got never bored. Not to mention, the film is fun to look at. The mix of Puppets and CGI was a desperate measure. The puppets were too heavy with mechanical faces, so they decided to do CGI instead. In Star Wars 4. Han Solo was supposed to be a green faced alien, but they couldn’t do that, I think because they practically had no money, so it was a human Harrison Ford. I guess that has a little similarity?

• The music is so distracting.

Wait, distracting because it’s the most   incredible soundtrack of the entire year?

About damn aliens, that’s right…

Man, this is hard if you try to not spoiler anything.

This film gets a lot of criticism from people that think their critique is important. And they are all right. This is, what, Dances With Wolves 2, Pocahontas 3, Ferngully 2?

Of course it isn’t.

I’m trying to explain to myself why I like this. Because it’s definitely not a good story if you write it on paper. Which I won’t do by the way.

It has one dimensional characters. About 2 or 3. People hated them. I loved their over-the-top performance. For example, there is this one Chief, you may  know him from trailers, that one with the scars. The only things he says are very sarcastic one-liners. He is always shown as a badass. And I loved that. I feel like every film needs a terrible character. You can’t expect films to be perfect all the time.

Oh, and I guess that’s a big problem. Because, well, it is a Cameron film. People expect Cameron to deliver the perfect film. They waited for, what, 15 years now? And what they get is a good film. Yeah, I bet that’s a problem. It’s not perfect and the story is worn out. How can anyone expect that from the Cameron? Not me. I guess I expect that he doesn’t make turds every time. But that’s all I expect from him. Hey, I love his filmography. Two awesome Terminators, True Lies, the Abyss, even Titanic. Every single film is incredible. Is Avatar not incredible? Not for me, no. Because story is not everything. Have you looked at the fucking visuals? Like the other HUGE thing about movies? What you see? God damn, that was the craziest shit I’ve ever seen. Marvel at the beauty man creates from computers. Because I am amazed, sirs.

And I’m not talking about 3D.

Oh, oh, and have you followed the, like, main character of the film? Because that one is definitely not living in one dimension. I loved his monologues in those vlogs. Voice overs are like excuses for bad story telling, right? Probably, but gee, I do wonder why there is a lot of really good films still doing that. And why it’s still worthwhile. Also Weaver. Like one friend of mine said. She’s definitely lives two lives in that film. One is the pissed Science lady that seems to hate life and work and everything, the other, well, watch the film. I won’t tell. I’m the person that hates spoilers in any size.

Then there is Whiteman’s guilt. Some people got all enraged about this guilt bullshit. Because, like they say, these films are constantly lecturing you of how you, white man, suck and never learn out of your faults. Screw you for killing Indians!

That’s true. It’s a big issue. And you know what? I didn’t care. I never felt any guilt, as this is not my world, my dimension or my responsibility. I blame the people in the movie. Not anyone else. The end.

There are other problems still. But these are major spoilers. And now please turn away people that didn’t see it. Small spoiler, but still. I want to hide it!

The connections. Maybe because you have an interpretation of what all that hair connection stuff was, you think it’s very dumb. But as I said, it’s not my world. Why should I care if you could compare it to stuff like usb connectors. What does it change if theoretical connection to mother nature gets literal in the form that you can hear barfled stuff of what trees think? God, how can this be a problem for people…

So many problems and I still love this film. Why? I don’t know and I don’t care!

Well, I tried participating. I wanted to release as much music as possible. Problem was, on this month I had exams, so after two weeks of trying to make music, I stopped doing anything music related and started learning shit.

So I just finished 3 songs and promised stuff I didn’t deliver. Makes me quite sad. But I guess the music is good.

I guess it’s a well made documentary and it colors me prejudice. Such an incredible work environment. If you are done working, try playing these new games please, we should know what their problems are to make fun of em.

But oh well, 2Player Productions seem to be huge chiptune nerds, so naturally the soundtrack of that docu is chiptune. One song catched my attention really hard though.

Don’t mind the dumb imagery. That song is just so mind-blowing.

And it’s just 4 minutes of the same melody over and over again. And still I never get bored of it.
This song kind of drags me back into chiptune. And my main problem about chiptune always was that I’m not good at making chiptune.

The attempts I have usually end up in being a shitty melody with terrible excuses of drum sets. I would love to make chiptune, but I always feel like it’s hard to make it sound good. Maybe I always forget how not really relevant it is that the snare doesn’t sound like a snare. I should listen to the music more carefully.

Oh, also there was this blip festival around this time. Well, it’s over now, but it happened again. It’s just, uh, I think 4 days of chiptune music on stage, as loud as possible. Recordings of those artists making the music is always incredible. As they mostly only have one gameboy and barely much control of the songs they already made, they just go crazy. Fun to watch.

What always worried me about that video was the sound cable he threw around with his gameboy. one false move and there is total silence in the room.

I guess I was searching for a long while for a good blog writing software outside the internet, so I don’t always need to visit wp-admin. This program I can start instantly, write shit, press enter, call it a day.

Online, I have to start a browser, type in my url, or at least press on the favs to get to the Dashboard. In there, I have to click on post and new. I dunno, it’s kind of tedious and too slow for me. If I want to write a blog entry, I want it to happen instantly, so that’s why I kinda found this Microsoft product. Not that there’s anything evil about Microsoft, but it really surprised me that there isn’t anything equally good.
