New Ableton Live coming.

Posted in Apps | View Comments

Since I am a Live geek, I have to tell you that there’s a new version coming.

This time the update seems to be more crucial because they finally fixed the most hated problem about Live: The VST-over-128-parameters problem. Yes. They fixed it. After over 4 Versions of waiting.
And the rest? Just like a typical Live upgrade.

More vocoder, groove, samba rythms (no kidding.), vocoder, new operator now being like a normal synth and not anymore extremely minimalistic, vocoder and a bit more.

Well yeah. I can’t wait. Their upgrade system is pretty complex…

Man, these internet people have creativity!

Games I recently played…

…with memorable music.

When I play games, I mostly focus on the music. Probably because thats my hobby. Doing music (Duh).

So here’s simply a short list of games I remember with decent music.

Spelunky

Oh how I hate and love this game. You die a lot.

But it’s almost impossible to keep your hands from playing it over and over until you get through this damn game.

It’s hard to describe this game. Some kind of procedual suicide platformer. Ah, just try it. It’s free.

The music is quite good. But not perfect.  And the main problem seems to be three different artists having their own style.

Most of the songs seem to be from George “The Doctor” Buzinkai. His style really fits this game perfectly. I just wonder why the music isn’t looped. At some point it just fades out and starts again. I think Derek, the creator of this neat game, just thought it’s perfect and threw it in. I kinda would do the same if I wouldn’t be obsessed with music. At least this fading is good for you to know that you needed more than 1:40 minutes in one cave. If you play over 2 minutes, a creepy ghost arrives and tries to… just kill you.

Interestingly, the ghost music is created by Derek himself. And he doesn’t even seem to try to make music at all. Well, we don’t care. It’s not like we want to hear it anyway. That ghost is creepy!

The third and last music artist is from Jonathan Perry.

Although I do love his songs, they don’t fit with the ones from Buzinkai. It’s a whole lot more chiptune and probably more realistic I’d guess. Oh. And his tracks loop. :)

So yeah, overall Spelunky is HOLY SHIT AWESOME PLAY IT.

CIRCLE

THE MUSIC SUCKS. C418 BOLLOCKS. CAWKS.
Oh wait. This game never got released. Nevermind. Moving on!

Peggle

peggle

This game is mean. Very mean. No, you don’t die often. You just see the art of casual games in front of your eyes and you can’t do anything against it. It kills DAYS where you could have done something useful.

I think everybody knows this already, but I say it here again.

Peggle is a game where you shoot balls. It’s Pachinko. You shoot balls and get points until a kind of balls disappear. Thats it.

Most of the music just sucks. It’s something you’d hear in an elevator. But they used classic orchestrations on special occacions. For example if you are about to win the round, you hear Beethovens popular Symphony no. 9. It’s very hilarous.

Oh, I have to mention: this game is not free. It costs money.

Crayon Physics Deluxe

crayon

Quite a different game. You probably know it already. It’s a physics based game where you draw stuff and make it reality.

Self explanatory. Good gameplay.

For a 20$ game, theres not much music to find.

The first song was already in the first version of Crayon Physics. It’s an awesome ambient type song by_ghost. Whoever you are, you seem awesome. Thumbs up.

The second song (by Alec) is a quite melodic and orchestral song of… melodies. It’s quite nice. but what I really find disturbing is the sudden ending. It just stops. Like someone pressing PAUSE on the CD-Player. Not good.

The third song you can hear in the menu is from Stian Stark. Never heard of him. But he seems good. It fits perfectly to the music that began with _ghost’s song.

Shame this game hasn’t any more music. Really, I expected a bit more.

Oh. You can hear the songs on Petris blog.

Ech. I don’t want to write more today. That’s it for now!

Songsmith

Microsoft had this grand idea to make a programm that automatically does accords for random singing files.

So they invented songsmith. You sing crap and it makes accords fitting to your voice. That still sounds interesting, but if you see the commercial, it gets pretty bad.

“Microsoft, huh? So it’s pretty easy to use?”

My friend asked: What would be more amusing? The macbook with flower stickers or the overuse of Melodyne?

Well. I think beginners could have fun with it. For a short while.

UPDATE

Look what I found on createdigitalmusic:

This one totally beats Songsmith. Holy crap.

Some new things will happen.

I updated the blog to the newest wordpress thing and even changed the flash-mp3 player to the newest shiny audio-player version. It’s totally awesome.

And I’ll post some things from the internets. Music stuff that interests me. Since I don’t update quite frequently.

I hope you’ll like this.
