Late-Night Random Sunday thoughts #2

Catherine is great! But an extremely hard game, definitely. However after I beat the game on easy, which is very manageable, normal difficulty felt pretty okay, actually!

I might have a new release soon… don’t expect really awesome stuff though!

Yesterday I had a great idea for a theme melody to the Minecraft documentary soundtrack, but as I wanted to maneuver my mouse to the piano plugin to midi-ize my thoughts, the battery of the mouse died. So I ended up running around in my room, searching the battery cable, whistling like a maniac. (In the end I just plugged in a non-rechargeable battery and gave up the hunt)

I’m out of stamps again, dammit. Next round of stamps for sending away CD’s is on Tuesday…

Next week I’ll do a bit of preparation work for MineCon. Getting a nice little set of music together. The directions that were given to me for the Miners (Minors) party is to play music that is sort of disco, but not necessarily to make the crowd go dance. Not what I would have wanted to play music wise , but hey, Mojang bought me a ticket to Las Vegas. And that’s so awesome, I will not complain one bit about anything. Well, except someone shoots me. Then I might complain a little bit about getting to Vegas. Or maybe if I get caught counting cards. But then it would be my fault… well, at least the casinos would say it like that BUT IT’S NOT TRUE!

I made a new remix song for Oxeyes Cobalt. It’s not really mindblowing to me or anything, but I think it does the job.

OCZ released an update for their newer SSD’s. It reduces the chance of “rare” bluescreens. They were so rare in my case, I had them every week. However the patch definitely fixed the problem so far. I haven’t seen anything slightly dark blue with white text recently. Had to reinstall Windows for that though. And that kind of sucked half of my week away. You know, reinstalling all programs and stuff.

Next week is the big gaming week. Hm. I think I’ll wait to play most games after MineCon. Like Skyrim and such.

My actual business cards are done and in printing! Woo! Hope they turn out well.

Additional very early Monday thought: 5 years ago I disliked classical music. Nowadays I can’t live without it at all!

Diligence +1!

My room is a mess of boxes of packages right now

(that’s the mess of boxes of ready-to-ship packages in my room right now)

Phew!

I finally packaged all of the preorders of “72 Minutes of Fame”.

That means by Friday most of the orders are on their way to the people that ordered! I really hope you excuse my pitiful delays and enjoy the very-soon-be-travelling music!

This also means I will FINALLY ship every ordered CD from now on in real time. Meaning as soon as I see the order, I’ll ship it! I’m so glad this huge pile of work is finished now.

And I also guess next time I’ll get a new CD pressed I will be acting much faster, now that I actually have a structure on how I ship CD’s.

So.

Yeah.

BREAKING NEWS–BBC SAYS NITIN SAID MINECRAFT MUSIC SUCKS BALLS

Ah, BBC. You are sometimes as amazing as The Sun.

So apparently they had some sort of discussion about whether games are art and Minecraft had one of the top spots of the discussion. Nitin Sawhney said the sound effects of the zombie suck balls. I agree. They are old and probably eventually change in the future once Minecraft has a cooler sound engine. However as Minecraft is a long term project, this is also a long term plan. So the sound effects will probably suck for quite a while. I can’t do anything here but wait!

But here’s the thing. The BBC website said that Nitin stated that the soundtrack of Minecraft sucks. How the writer of the article misunderstood “Zombie sounds reminiscent of someone having sex with an otter” as “Music sucks as hard as your mother” is beyond me.

BBC, you’re amazingly dull and didn’t make my day.

Cool update:

Here’s a little sneak preview on one of the songs I planned for the Creative Mode of MInecraft! The songs in creative mode are generally very progressive and calm’ish.

Random thoughts Sunday #1

Persona 3 Portable is both better and worse than the original. I want to control my character around, not move a cursor!

Tomorrow is Halloween. I should watch trashy horror films. Or play through Amnesia again? There are not that many good horror games…

I submitted my GDC talk (that didn’t get accepted) to IGF. Here’s hopin’

I love slacking off on Sundays.

There are about 200 packaged CD’s in my room. Getting those to the post office will be a pain.

I have to think about a new way of presenting live sets only with a laptop, an iPad and a Novation Launchpad. For mixing over two songs I love the Arrangement view, but people told me that Session view would be much better. However in Session view I can’t see the cues. But I can loop tracks. Should investigate.

Leica is making a new stop motion film, which will be not directed by Henry Selic. Curious. And then Tim Burton himself is working on a new stop motion film himself, at the same time. Also curious because Tim used to work with Leica. Remember Nightmare before Christmas?

On Tuesday I can finally make some new songs once the CD’s are out of my house. Hopefully will not get a writers block while trying.

In case you’re wondering

Sometime later tonight, probably in 4 to 6 hours, this website will be down for a while.

The reason is an update from MySQL 4 to 5. With that I can keep having the newest versions of WordPress.
That’s all!
Edit: Update was successful and now the server is using the shiny new WordPress! Phew.

The fun of releasing a physical album.

My my, what a hassle.

The thought of releasing an album physically has been in the back of my head for forever, really. Probably the first time when I released the album “Zweitonegoismus”.

Fast forward 4 years, I actually have 1000 copies of an album I created in my house. But boy, was it horrible to get them here in the first place!

Getting 1000 CD’s pressed is not a task of asking a pressing company to make some, pronto. It’s extremely complicated. And one faulty step, one error in the packaging design, and you get 1000 failures. And lotsa money less. Phew.

So it took me a while to find a pressing comany that I could ask everything I need to know to get a perfectly fine copy of my album. So I did found a company that I thought was what I exactly needed. Or so I thought. Emails I wrote about basic problems I needed help solving to get a perfect copy of the art design were never answered.

“Okay”, I thought, “at least get everything finished so the design and the CD master are looking as they were finished and press worthy”.

However, after I tried actually mailing them about business terms, they were, surprise, extremely unresponsive. That was a huge waste of time on my side.

I had to spend an entire week finding another company. And hooray, I actually found a company that were highly responsive and answered every single question I threw at them clearly and well written. The only downside was that they had a business term of timing. The faster you get your CD’s, the more expensive it gets. So I had to endure another waiting period of one month.

Later the CD’s finally arrived at my doorstep and I was finally able to start packaging them.

While I was doing that and started shipping the first copies around, I nearly forgot that I had a little live show at a local bar, so I AGAIN had to put shipping CD’s on hiatus.

Really sorry about that guys, hahah.

However, today is saturday and I’m about to print the receipts for the last 80 copies that are in my shipment list. So by Monday almost all copies should be on their way.

So I learned one thing from all this.

Next time I plan on making physical CD’s, I’ll keep it secret until they are actually at my doorstep.

Oh, one more thing. I made a good friend of mine make some really cool photos of the CD’s. They turned out AWESOME:

Back to Zero!

Welcome back to my blog everyone!

And sorry everyone!

I was extremely unhappy with my previous endeavours into bloggings, so I just decided to start back from zero.
This time I want to try to keep my bloggings as short as possible, however I do want to try and publish at least one entry every three days.
What thematics you ask? I have no idea! It’s my personal blog we’re talking about!
I might discuss how shitty the latest video game I just played is or how awesome that recent movie was I watched.
Or I actually might tell you how I work on songs on projects you find very interesting. WHO KNOWS!

At any rate, do slap me if I don’t post an article every three days.
