Can I make piano versions / Ambient versions / speedup/slowed down versions and put up for monetization on YouTube? Your creation of “covers” of Minecraft songs, recorded your own way and uploaded to YouTube does not require a license as long as the recording is only uploaded to YouTube. A cover is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. YouTube has a content identification system called Content ID that will allow us to monetize covers of Minecraft songs on their platform. If you want to release a cover of a Minecraft song outside of YouTube, a compulsory license is required. You can obtain a compulsory license without our approval, however, one of the requirements of obtaining a compulsory license is to notify us of your intent to use our songs.
